Hamilton

Hamilton is an industrialized port city in the west end of Lake Ontario with a population of 714,900, the eighth largest city in Canada and the third largest in Ontario. Traditionally, the local economy has been led by the steel and heavy manufacturing industries. Within the last decade, there has been a shift towards the service sector, particularly health sciences.

Transportation

Hamilton's bus service has connections to other Ontario cities and Western New York cities. GO Transit has service available including rail. Some VIA rail service is available. Great for commuters, Hamilton has many highways and expressways - QEW, HWY 403, HWY 6, Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway, and Burlington Street. Hamilton is also home to the John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport. Burlington Bay is a natural harbour with a large sandbar called the Beachstrip. There are two bridges, the QEW's Burlington Bay James N. Allan Skyway and the lower Canal Lift Bridge.

Sports

Hamilton has representation in two professional sports leagues, the Canadian Football League with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the American Hockey League with the Hamilton Bulldogs. Its major sports complexes include Ivor Wynne Stadium and Copps Coliseum.

Education

McMaster University and Brock University's satellite campus used primarily for teacher education are located in Hamilton. Colleges include McMaster Divinity College, a Christian seminary, Mohawk College, a college of applied arts, Columbia International College a private boarding university-preparatory school, and Redeemer University College, a private Christian liberal arts and science university.
